The United States is getting its share of hurricanes this season. Hurricanes Harvey and Irma devastated numerous homes and uprooted families. Many of us are still recovering. But from one hurricane survivor to the next… let’s look at the brighter side of things.
Here are 10 reasons why it is better to spend time with your family during a hurricane compared to during the holidays.
You don’t have to dress up
No one is going to judge you for being comfortable doing the storm. Especially if the sweatpants and tank tops are breezy.
You can be involved with your work/job
We all know you didn’t request this time off. So go ahead… reply to your boss and check on your clients.
You won’t mess up on the gifts
Because you don’t have to buy any. Bring water, snacks, and canned goods to where-ever you plan on living during a hurricane. Everyone will be grateful.
No one will be on their phone
Hey! Eventually, the electricity is going to go down. You will have to decide how to ration your phone use. Try playing these card games.
You didn’t use vacation time
You already live in a vacation spot; near the water, in warm temperatures. Take a moment and look around outside. As you help close shutters and cut down hanging tree limbs before the storm.
You can be strategic in choosing where to go
Whether you want to be somewhere close to home or at your auntie’s house because she cooks well. The choice is yours as long as you are out of harm’s way.
Which brings me to my next point… You won’t be expected to cook
You aren’t the head of this household and no one is anxious to pass down recipes to you. Focus on finding a way to help with the hurricane preparations.
Your story skills will be tested. Finally 😩🙌🏾
There will be lots of down time once the electricity goes out. So, start thinking about appropriate conversational topics and a few naughty jokes to throw in.
You get to work on your game skills
If there are children around, your gaming skills will be tested. Just know that this new generation is critical… always look them in the eye and always win.
You will have time to write.
Like I mentioned, Hurricane Irma just slid her way through Florida – up the west coast and passed through all the states until she reached Tennesse. Within all those endless hours trapped inside your safe house… do something you enjoy.
